Get ready to welcome the first WordPress theme launch for the new year 2008. The theme is called Techicon and it has three sidebars with enough space for all your content. It is a 4-column, widget ready, fully validated WordPress theme suitable for most technology blogs. It also has three different sections which contain five recent posts, recent comments and popular posts. Hoping to hear your feedback on this WordPress theme.

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done an amazing job with this.

Thank you, this is a great theme and I’m grateful you have made it available for free. I’ve just converted my hosting directory over to it from another 4 column theme and I’m more than happy with it.

I noticed a couple of issues that I managed to fix, but there is one that has got me beat. The search box in the header does not display in IE, only in Firefox. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thank you for any suggestions.

@Takuin – Brutal. Lol. Isn’t that a word too harsh to use on your beloved blog? Well anyways, point taken. I also visited your site and saw the telling effect your advice had… Cheers for that.

@ Ashok

The best thing to do, or at least the easiest, is to be brutal with the editing of your post titles. It really doesn’t effect my own site, but that may have more to do with the subject matter.

The best advice I can give is to prune as much as possible.

By the way, I have used this theme for my own site since the beginning of the year. I have had no real problems, and it has all worked like a dream. It has little resemblance to the original theme, but it was incredibly easy to alter to suit my needs.

Thanks,

Takuin Minamoto

Hey Jai,

Great Theme Buddy. I’m a fan… By the way, I’m using this theme for my tech blog and I notice that in the latest posts box at the top, the words overflow the box. Anyone else faced this problem?

Cheers,

A G

Your RSS link in the sidebar.php links to YOUR feed rather than being automatically set up for the site owner’s feed. That’s not very friendly to wordpress newbies.

Hi, thanx a lot for this wonderful theme, I installed it on my blog and after modifying it just a bit, got a nice look for my blog. I needed help with just 1 small thing, how do I hide the Blog Title & Blog Description from the Header because they are not visible in the background of the header anyway, also, will this affect my SEO in anyway?

I am having problems with the search feature. On the search results, lets say you search and there are 3 pages of results, when you click page 2 it doesn’t pass the s= variable and thus you get the 2nd page of ALL your posts ?

Any ideas ?

Looks very nice. I have two questions:

1) My post titles tend to be long at times. With the 5 “recent post” and “recent comments” boxes at the top, the text tends to go outside the lines. Is there any way to change that number to 4 or 3?

2) Changing the header image. I have a custom header image that I don’t want to lose. What’s the best way to go about inserting that into the theme in place of the standard blog name and link to the homepage?

Thanks.

Hey everyone. Just to let you know that the theme works beautifully so far. I just set it up on http://www.takuin.com/ . I have, so far, found no issues from the theme itself.

But since this is the first week with the new theme, I’ll be sure to chime in with any problems that may come up.

Dear JAi, i tried to install this theme to my blog at http://techborneo.com however that theme doesn’t work like the test u had in your server.

Please help me what is the problem. could this be to the theme it self?

thanks

I just figured it out, thanks to Lee. It is a slightly different solution, but I will post it here in case someone else has the same problem.

This was the suspect code:

<a href=”/”>

It is in the header.php, by the way.

At first, I just removed the whole thing, but it actually removed the entire header, including my text graphic.

Instead, I removed everything in between these tags:

I guess, technically, the header is still there, but there are no instructions (or whatever they are called).

The cool thing is, the browser still recognizes the blog title (the one indicated on the options page of the administrator dashboard).

But, I am new to all of this, so if any of you see this as a big no-no, please let me know. But it seems to have solved my problem.

Thanks, Lee.

Edit the theme and go to the header, php

find this (Use search)

“<a href=”/”>” and remove it.

I think that should do it. but it will make it so clicking the banner will not take you home.

I could be wrong here as i have not tested it. So make sure you backup πŸ˜›

I need a bit of help with this theme.

I designed a simple text graphic in photoshop to use instead of the default wordpress blog title and tagline.

My only problem is, how do I remove the blog title and tagline? It shows up over the graphic I designed.

I tried to simply remove the title and tagline in the WP options menu, and it worked. But afterward, I could no longer see the blog name in internet explorer and firefox (because I removed it from the options).

I am planning on using this as my new theme for 2008, and I think it is awesome. If I could only figure out how to do this one little thing.

Sorry if it is a simple fix, but I could not find the info in forums or documentation.

Thanks for your time.

DAMN YOU!!! I just finished customizing my theme from you and got it looking perfect and now you bring out a theme that in my eyes is better then Xplosive Reloaded! Now i have to start again…. weeks wasted….

Thanks for your great theme πŸ˜‰ On a side note, your copyright is out of date

Use “” instead of 2008 and it will update on its own πŸ˜›

Nice, a four-column theme. It never hurts to have that extra column — there’s always something useful to put there! πŸ™‚

Jai, why didnot you designed this theme with bright colors and rounded edges? Most of my friends like them very much.
Happy New Year to you!
